2025 Ford Expedition Tremor 4x4 - Bottom Line Review
2025 Ford Expedition Tremor 4x4: jumbo Blue Oval SUV for the rough and tumble

EXPEDITIONARY FORCE ON & OFF ROAD: Lewis and Clark saddled up wagon trains to chart North America west of the Mississippi River. Charles Darwin sailed on the H.M.S. Beagle to the Galapagos Islands to examine native flora and fauna. And with the American colonies already discovered and settled, James Cook voyaged to the Pacific on the Endeavor to trade with new far away lands, on behalf of H.R.M. King George III.

Given the passage of time, passages on and off the beaten path are navigated with greater aplomb and connectivity. To that end the Blue Oval brand of Dearborn trots out its latest generation of exploratory juggernaut, the tuned for most terrain 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor 4x4.

WHAT: 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor 4x4, designated U717, is the fifth generation three-row boxed ladder frame SUV, based on the F-Series pickup truck. The Tremor model assumes rugged theme duties from the previous Timberline trim.

WHAT (A) STYLING DIFFERENCE: An evolutionary update to its aluminum body-on-boron steel frame T3 platform U553 predecessor, cosmetic alterations to the fifth generation 2026 Ford Expedition ditch some station wagon aero themes, gaining a more rough & ready look.

Losing its former sloping, cheese grater appearance, the center lateral bar grille and flanking lighting evoke a wide "U" framing. Deeper, slimmer inboard "F" directional / DRL lighting lacks back sweeping, yet yields a prominent halo nighttime effect. The lower front fascia is more monolithic with prominent corner folding. A central powerdome hood now bears the EXPEDITION nomenclature at the trailing edge.

The retained raked windshield, long roof spoiler profile terminating into slight Kammback for a sportback look. Crease traced, oversized wheel arches, a marked belt line and subtle lower body creasing is also reprised. On the Expedition Tremor, fully darkened post 1st Row pillars blend with wrap around privacy glass for a floating roof effect.

Owing to the new split clamshell liftgate, it's the new Explorer posterior which has departed furthest from the old. The lift and drop gate are fully darkened. Tat contrasts with lateral creased body color lower edge, rising at sides to meet inverted inboard "F" taillamps.

Lower liftgate edge illuminated "EXPEDITION" lettering flanked by lateral light bars; Drop gate center license plate bowl; Impact protecting protruding lower fascia, split into upper body color, lower darkening + lateral corner reflectors.

HOW ROADWORTHY: Blue Oval is convinced low speed torque is what customers want, so an eight-pot cannot be had as in competing GM large flagship SUVs. Thus, under the bonnet of the 2026 Ford Expedition Tremor, the high-po version of the EcoBoost D35 twin-turbo petrol V-6, out-torques Dearborn's famed atmospheric small block V-8. The Ford-GM ten-speed transmission is keen to ingest the low speed punch, conducting the frequent lower gear upshifts unobtrusively, while capable of authoritative passing kick-down under throttle. Despite an exaggerated manufactured idle rumble, the powerplant sounds quite unobtrusive.

Rear frame hitch attachment points and a greater use high strength, lighter weight boron martensitic steel has improved weight distribution for enhanced towing capacity & handling

  • -1 Awkward location of drive & trailering controls:
    • Rotary transmission selector dial & manumatic shift buttons at upper center stack
    • Trailer mode rotary dial inside cockpit forward center console concealed tray
    • Rotary drive, 4WD mode knob at driver's left knee lower dashboard

A fully independent suspension on coil springs under the 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor executes a ride damped for aplomb, without much oscillation. As a credit to the lower mass aluminum body, even with the extra wheel travel there is nary a tippy sensation. However, there is the implicit body lean entering cloverleafs with speed. Its quick to adapt to the quirky elliptical helm, which actually requires less driver input. Unfortunately, the General Grabber rubber remains a culprit against speedier turn-in. Large discs, supplemented by two extra caliper in front, modulate smoothly for confident stopping power.
